IMPORTANT NOTICE RE: ID REQUIREMENTS FOR OSAP AND OUT-OF-PROVINCE STUDENT LOANS

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) provides eligible students with various types of assistance based on financial need. Such assistance is intended to supplement, not to replace, the resources of you and your family. Although assistance is not based on academic standing, you are expected to maintain satisfactory progress in your studies. The need for OSAP assistance and the value of an OSAP award are established in accordance with the policies and guidelines of the OSAP program, and financial data as provided by the applicant.

When completing an OSAP application, students are applying for assistance funded by the provincial government (Ontario Student Loans, Ontario Student Opportunity Grants and Aiming for the Top Scholarships) and/or the federal government (Canada Student Loans, Canada Study Grant for Students with Dependants and Canadian Millennium Bursary). Other sources of financial assistance for which you must fill out a separate application, are listed below and are explained in detail on the OSAP website

  • Bursary for Students With Disabilities
  • Canada Study Grant for High-Need Part-time Students
  • Child Care Bursary
  • Interest-Relief and Debt-Reduction Programs
  • Ontario Work-Study Plan**
  • Part-time Canada Student Loans
  • Ontario Special Bursary Program

** The Ontario/Sheridan Work-Study Program is designed to provide on-campus work experience for full-time Sheridan students who require assistance in covering education-related costs. If your educational needs have not been fully met by OSAP, and you are a full-time student, you are eligible to apply. Usually you will work between five and 15 hours per week at a rate of pay no less than minimum wage. The maximum amount you are entitled to earn is $1,000 per four month term including vacation pay and benefits. A full listing of available positions can be obtained from the Student Awards Office during the school year.

Message for Students enrolling in the Bachelor of Design Program (joint York/Sheridan program)

If you are planning to apply for OSAP to assist you with your costs of education, you must list Sheridan as the institution on your OSAP application.  All signed declaration pages and supporting documentation for your OSAP application should be mailed to Sheridan College, 1430 Trafalgar Road, Oakville, ON  L6H 2L1.  Please apply early!


Please visit the Financial Aid Office of the campus you attend to pick up your OSAP funds*

* Students in the York/Sheridan Joint Design Program and students who attend the STC Campus are asked to pick up their OSAP funds from the Trafalgar Campus Financial Aid Office

Bring your Social Insurance Card and valid, government-issued photo identification such as:

• Driver’s License
• Canadian Passport
• Canadian Citizenship Card
• Permanent Resident Card
• Age of Majority Card
• Provincial Health Card with a photo

with you to pick up your loan and to process it with the National Student Loans Service Centre

It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that he/she picks up all of his/her loan documents and has them processed through the National Student Loans Service Centre prior to the end of his/her current study period.
