Presidential Search Update: November 2, 2009

The Presidential Search Committee and The Board of Governors are delighted to advise you that an agreement has been signed with a new President, who will start with Sheridan February 1, 2010. Announcements will be made in early December upon the completion of the new President's current organizational commitments. Committee & Board members are looking forward to welcoming our new President to Sheridan in the new year.

A special THANKS to all the members of the search committee for their diligence & personal commitment to this very important process.

Presidential Search Update: October 16, 2009

Your Search Committee is currently completing some due diligence and will provide another update by the end of the month.
The Committee is pleased with the progress and the search is progressing in accordance with the schedule that was established earlier this summer.

Presidential Search Update: September 29, 2009

Your Presidential Search Committee has interviewed a number of strong candidates during the month of September. Since relaunching the search in July, the Committee has remained focused and on schedule. They are continuing discussions and due diligence with several individuals during the last days of September and the beginning of October, and will communicate further within the next two weeks.

Presidential Search Update - August 31, 2009

Your Search Committee met with the consultants to review the backgrounds of candidates for the role of President of Sheridan. At the end of the meeting, the Committee selected a number of individuals they wish to interview. Committee members are pleased with the backgrounds and experience of the individuals presented.

The Committee will be interviewing candidates over several days during the month of September. After the first round of interviews, the Committee will select a smaller group of candidates to be interviewed a second time. These second interviews should be concluded by the end of September. Your Committee will continue to report on progress as the search moves forward.

Thank you.

Presidential Search Update: July 2009

In our last update, your Presidential Search Committee let you know that we were in discussions with a selected individual. Those discussions did not conclude with an agreement between the two parties. The fact that this negotiation was unsuccessful does not in any way adversely reflect on the outstanding reputation of Sheridan. Your Search Committee has identified other excellent candidates and will extend the search and meet with those candidates over the summer.

The selection of Sheridan's new President is the most important duty of the Board and as such requires the most careful consideration. The search process has taken place over a number of months, during which the Search Committee has invested considerable time and met with some excellent, qualified candidates. While these meetings have not resulted in the hiring of a new leader, your Committee and Search Consultants are committed to continuing the process until we reach a successful conclusion. We look forward to celebrating the announcement of a new President with you later this year. Your Search Committee is targeting to have the new President on board in January, 2010.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Robert Turner will remain in his position as President of Sheridan until the end of December.

As we have done in the past, we will continue to provide regular updates.
Thank you.

Presidential Search Update: June 2009

Your Presidential Search Committee is currently engaged in discussions with a selected individual for the position of President and CEO of Sheridan. We expect these discussions to be completed within the next couple of weeks. At that time we will report again and let you know the outcome.

Presidential Search Update: May 2009

The Search Committee has met a number of strong candidates for the role  of President, and has met more than once with several individuals.

Additional meetings, discussions and referencing are taking place during the month of May.

Presidential Search Update: March 30th, 2009

The role profile for the President was posted on the Website in February. The search consultants report that feedback on the profile has been very positive.

The Search Committee met on March 30th and reviewed and considered the backgrounds of a number of people who have expressed an interest in the role of President of Sheridan. The Committee was pleased with the quality and range of backgrounds presented, and has made plans to interview some of these individuals over the coming weeks.

Presidential Search Update: February 20, 2009

The Presidential Search Committee met on February 20th . Members of the Committee reviewed further stakeholder feedback, and heard a report from the search consultants on their outreach activities. During the meeting, the Committee gave final approval to the role profile, which was subsequently posted. The Committee also reviewed a draft list of questions to be asked during interviews.

As they have done at the commencement and conclusion of each meeting, the Committee reviewed the importance of confidentiality. The Committee has agreed in writing not to discuss the names and/or backgrounds of candidates during or at any time after the conclusion of the search process.

Presidential Search Update: February 12, 2009

The Presidential Search Committee met by telephone on February 12, 2009. The Committee reviewed a revised draft of the Presidential role profile, and suggested several additional changes. The final draft will be reviewed over the next few days with the goal of posting the document on Sheridan's Website and making it available to prospective candidates as soon as possible.

The Committee also heard a report from the search consultants on the outreach that has been undertaken to date, including e-mails, telephone conversations, follow-up on recommendations, review of advertising response, etc. The progress report from the consultants indicated that there is a high level of awareness of, and interest in, the opportunity.

The Committee will meet again later this month.

Presidential Search Update: Committee Meeting January 26, 2009

The Presidential Search Committee met on January 26th. The Search Consultants presented a summary of the unattributed stakeholder feedback to date for the Committee's review. The Committee also reviewed and revised the draft Role Profile for the new President.

The Committee plans to revise, finalize and approve the Role Profile during the first two weeks of February. Once the document has been finalized, it will be posted on the Sheridan site. Meanwhile, the Search Consultants are engaged in outreach to prospective candidates. This will continue over a number of weeks.

If you did not have an opportunity to attend the focus groups that were held at the Trafalgar and Davis campuses, you are most welcome to add your thoughts to the Presidential search process. Your comments will not be attributed to you. Please contact The Caldwell Partners in confidence at sheridan.president.search@caldwell.ca or via phone at (416) 920-7702.

Presidential Search Update: January 22, 2009

The Presidential Search Committee met on January 21st. Dr. Turner addressed the Committee, offering his views, as a stakeholder, on the challenges and opportunities of the role and the leadership experience and qualities required. Stakeholder consultations commenced in December, and the search consultants have spoken with over 75 stakeholders to date. Full days of focus group meetings have been taking place this week at each of Trafalgar and Davis campuses (Davis campus consultations are taking place all day in Room H153 on Friday, January 23rd).

The Committee also reviewed the search plan and schedule, and each member of the Committee has signed a Confidentiality Agreement. While the process must be a confidential one in order to protect candidate identities, the Committee also supports a transparent process, which includes communicating to the Sheridan community all non-confidential information. To that end, the Committee will post regular updates on the search process, as well as a copy of the Role Profile when it has been completed.

If you have inquiries about the search process, please get in touch with The Caldwell Partners at sheridan.president.search@caldwell.ca, or call (416) 920-7702 and ask for Lauren Schagen.

Presidential Search Update: December 18, 2008

The Presidential Search Committee and the search consultants met by conference call on December 17th. The primary purposes of the meeting were to introduce the twelve Committee members, and to plan the search strategy and schedule.

The search plan will have two streams of activity over the coming weeks:

  • a consultation process with Sheridan constituents and stakeholders, seeking input into the desired attributes, profile, credentials and mandate for the next President; and
  • outreach through advertising, e-mail and telephone to broadcast the opportunity and begin to prompt candidate interest as well as suggestions of candidates (once the consultation process has been completed and the resultant role profile has been approved, the search consultants will be able to assess these prospective candidates and suggestions against the agreed-upon role profile)

Every effort will be made to ensure that everyone who has an interest in the search for the next President will have an opportunity to offer thoughts on the profile, attributes and mandate of the next President, and to make candidate suggestions.

The Committee and search consultants will be meeting regularly over the next six months, with the expectation of completing the work in time for a new President to join Sheridan in the summer of 2009.

Print and web advertising launching the call for candidates and nominations has begun to appear this month in academic media and in the national press. Members of the Sheridan community are invited to forward candidate nominations or recommendations to the consultants via sheridan.president.search@caldwell.ca
