Exhibition Calendar 2009/2010

Sheridan’s gallery showcases the rich mix of people and programs that make sheridan a unique, vibrant arts community through a series of student and faculty exhibitions that encourage cross-disciplinary creativity. Exhibitions highlight outstanding curriculum-based student work from glass and textiles, to photography and paintings and reinforce the relationship between learning institute, industry and community. opening and closing receptions are often open to the public with the opportunity to meet up-and-coming sheridan students who will have an enormous impact on the future visual, social and economic world.

The gallery mandate is to educate, amaze and expose our students and visitors to art and design while reflecting a variety of ideas, cultures and media.

 

Faculty & Staff Exhibition: School of Animation, Arts and Design

May 29 – September 18, 2009
See new work by faculty and staff of the School of Animation,
Arts and Design including sculpture, paintings and photography.

Threads That Bind

September 25 – October 10, 2009
An exhibition of some recent and award-winning textiles by
jurors and organizers of Oakville’s international World of Threads
Festival.

Second Degree Education

October 16 – October 30, 2009
Show of work by faculty of the School of Animation, Arts and
Design who are recent graduates of Master’s programs.

Collecting Our Thoughts

November 6 – November 20, 2009
The art of collecting is a practice with a very old cultural history
and is still very common in our contemporary world. From antique
cameras to rusty found objects, this exhibition reflects the diversity
of our School of Animation, Arts and Design faculty and staff
through their personal collections.

Glass Inside Out

November 27 – December 11, 2009
This exhibition presents a broad overview of intriguing and
surprising objects made by students from all years of the Crafts
and Design Program – Glass Studio.

Art & Art History Winter Review of First and Second Year Work

January 15 – January 29, 2010
Features a survey of work by Art and Art History students in the
first and second years of this joint 4-year BA program between
Sheridan and the University of Toronto, Mississauga. The
exhibition showcases student work from the six sub-discipline
streams: drawing, painting, print media, photography, design
and sculpture/installation.

Fabrics Studio Exhibition

February 5 – February 19, 2010
The Fabrics Studio Exhibition features work by first, second
and third year students from the Crafts and Design Program
– Fabrics Studio.

Applied Photography Showcase

February 26 – March 12, 2010
A selected collection of student work from Years 1 and 2 of the
Applied Photography Program including portraiture, industrial,
commercial and product work.

Ceramics: Work in Progress

March 19 – April 2, 2010
Discover work in progress by students in the Crafts and Design
Program – Ceramics Studio. Experience both sculptural and functional
work. A variety of hand building and throwing techniques
using different clays and kiln atmospheres are utilized in the
production of this work.

Furniture Studio Exhibition

April 9 – April 16, 2010
This show is a sampling of outstanding work done by
students in Years 1, 2 and 3 in the Crafts and Design Program
– Furniture Studio.

Faculty & Staff Show: School of Animation, Arts and Design

May 28 – September 17, 2010
See the diverse work done by the outstanding faculty and staff of
the School of Animation, Arts and Design.
