Sheridan’s Advanced Television and Film Program (ATVF) provides a benchmark of excellence for film schools in Canada. Our student work consistently wins awards at film festivals in North America and internationally, and our graduates routinely achieve professional and artistic success.

ATVF integrates the practical, technical and creative aspects of television and film studies while providing direct, industry-relevant experience. You’ll develop your creativity while gaining the specialized skills you need to bring your ideas and vision to life on the screen. You’ll also acquire an understanding of new technologies and production methods, enabling you to stay current as the industry evolves.

Get Immersed in the Industry

ATVF stands out among Canadian film schools for its hands-on emphasis. In less than a year you’ll work on about 15 films while:
  • Learning sophisticated production techniques and technologies, including RED, HD, 35 mm, 16 mm, and AVID Adrenaline
  • Collaborating with other creative professionals
  • Shooting on professional sound stages and on location
  • Producing documentaries
  • Developing a fast track to knowledge in areas such as directing, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, sound, production design, and post-production
  • Building career connections during a five-week onsite job placement

Our instructors and production facilities rank second to none among film schools in Canada. You’ll work in professional surroundings, learn from practicing filmmakers with years of industry experience, and become immersed in the culture of the television and film industry — and, in just eight months, you can become part of it.

ATVF is designed for mature students who already hold a college diploma or university degree, and for working professionals who want to upgrade their skill set. The program belongs to CILECT (Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinéma et de Télévision), an international consortium of the world’s major television and film schools.

Advanced Television and Film ATVF courses are held at the Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville, Ontario.

Additional Costs

In addition to the tuition/fees for this program, students should plan to spend an additional $2,000 – $5,000 (approximately) in materials and supplies depending on their Master Class focus.

ATVF alumni have earned Academy Award nominations, Genie Awards, festival awards, and numerous other honors. They build careers in all aspects of the film and television industry, working as:

  • Film/TV producer
  • Director
  • Art director
  • Cinematographer
  • Film and video editor
  • Assistant director
  • Motion picture camera operator/camera assistant
  • Production manager/unit coordinator
  • Location audio recordist
  • Foley sound specialist
  • Post-audio engineer/mixer
  • Digital image compositor
  • Film/video transfer operator/colourist
  • Production designer
  • Screenwriter
Graduates also find opportunities with broadcasters, suppliers, and technology groups.

We are unique because we train students to understand emerging technology and industrial workflows so our graduates are well placed to work anywhere notwithstanding technological change.
