Field Placement
Each semester of the last three years of your Athletic Therapy program includes field and clinical work. During Year 2 and Year 3 you will undertake a field practicum in a high school sports team environment. In Year 4 you will have more clinical responsibility and will work with a college varsity team providing clinical treatment. Between Years 3 and 4, you will have an opportunity to participate in a 14-week work term gaining hands-on experience in athletic therapy. There is a $510 practicum fee.
N.B. Sheridan has been granted a consent by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to offer this applied degree for a further five-year term starting May 30, 2008. Sheridan will ensure all students admitted to the Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences (Athletic Therapy) program during the period of consent will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable timeframe.
Sheridan’s training gives you a fast start in your career. When you complete your Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences you will be well prepared to work in a variety of athletic therapy settings including:
- Sports health care team (amateur, varsity or professional)
- Athletic therapy clinics (established clinics, college/university or private practice)
- Corporations concerned about corporate wellness
- Insurance companies
- Businesses providing orthopaedic bracing
The program is also an excellent springboard if you wish to pursue graduate studies in Health Sciences.
