Sheridan’s Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences (Exercise Science and Health Promotion) (BAHSc (ESHP) Program combines specific skills in exercise science and health promotion with business leadership and practical experience. As a result, you will be equipped to develop, implement and manage wellness and health programs and initiatives in both the public and private sectors.

The multidisciplinary approach of the exercise science program borrows from the strengths of traditional Kinesiology and Health Sciences curricula and enhances them with business management and lab experiences. Field placements and a 14-week cooperative education component provide invaluable real world experience.

Through this Exercise Science and Health Promotion degree program you will study such subjects as:

  • Biomechanics
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Nutrition
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Ergonomics
  • Group fitness leadership
  • Lifestyle assessment and counseling
  • Clinical exercise physiology
  • Wellness coaching

As an Exercise Science degree graduate, you can receive professional certifications through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and the Ontario Kinesiology Association. You also qualify to move onto post-graduate training at Universities in Canada and the United States.

Field Placement and Cooperative Education

There are two field placements (Year 2 (30 hours), and Year 4 (112 hours)) and a 14-week paid cooperative work term in Year 3. These experiences are designed to give you the opportunity for first-hand observation and application of theories studied in class. There is a fee of $510 for the cooperative education placement.

The Exercise Science and Health Promotion program is located at the Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario.

Sheridan provides the skills employers are seeking. When you graduate from the BAHSc (ESHP) Program, you are qualified to take on a leadership role in these sectors:

  • Public health
  • Corporate wellness
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Community parks and recreation
  • General fitness
  • Exercise rehabilitation
