Sheridan’s Emergency Management certificate program trains you to respond swiftly and effectively to a wide range of emergencies: from pandemics to terrorist attacks, to natural and man-made disasters.
Through this program you will learn to implement comprehensive disaster plans to:

This Emergency Management training is beneficial for both current practitioners and those new to the field of emergency management. The program includes both presentation of theory and hands-on assignments to develop specific knowledge and skills. Classes include:
- Taking part in large-scale emergency exercises
- Field trips to emergency responder agencies
- Analyzing emergency situations and developing emergency plans
- Designing emergency exercises
- Problem-based learning and case studies
- Practice dealing with the media, including writing press releases
Program Delivery
The Emergency Management Program includes two courses that are delivered online, two weeklong intensive courses and two in-class courses each semester. This model accommodates the schedules of those currently employed and allows those who are new to the field to benefit from exposure to those who have emergency management experience.
Articulation Agreement with Brock University
The Emergency Management Program includes courses offered through both Brock University and Sheridan. This four-year Collaborative Study in Emergency Management (CSEM) program includes courses and training in Emergency Management at Sheridan with an Honours degree in Communication Studies or Political Science at Brock. Students who successfully complete the requirements for this program will be granted a degree from Brock and a post-graduate certificate in Emergency Management from Sheridan. This entire program — including both a university degree and a graduate certificate — can be completed in just four years.
The Emergency ManagementProgram is located at the Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario.

Program Eligibility
- Postsecondary diploma or degree.
and/or
- Demonstrated competence through related work and/or educational experience.
Individuals with extensive work-related experience will be considered on an individual basis and required to submit a portfolio for assessment.
Applicant Selection
Eligible applicants will be selected on the basis of demonstrated competence through related work and/or educational experience.
Postsecondary transcripts, indicating courses completed to date, must be submitted to ontariocolleges.ca at at the time of application.
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other, related programs.
