In just one year, Sheridan’s International Business certificate program gives you the skills you need to begin an exciting career dealing with people and organizations overseas. Today, 35% of Canada’s jobs relate to international trade, which makes an international business college education highly valuable in the business world. This training prepares you to get in on some of today’s most fascinating business opportunities. Your training includes:
  • Developing a foreign market entry strategy for a specific product or service
  • Creating a customized international business plan to support the global initiative of a real company
  • Participating in group presentations before your class
  • Upgrading your software skills to include applications used in international business
  • Coaching in overcoming cultural differences among trading partners and clients

In addition, your professors:

  • Bring in guest speakers who are active in international business
  • Teach you how to research and analyze potential international opportunities
  • Introduce you to networking and industry association events
  • Help you hone your business report writing and presentation skill
  • Teach you how to undertake a search for international employment


 

Internationally experienced professors

 
The professors who teach your international business courses hold master’s degrees or Ph.Ds, and they are personally experienced in international business. Several have worked overseas. Your professors are continually updating the program so that it accurately reflects current international market conditions, challenges and regulations. 

CITP Designation

The program is a fully accredited Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) educational partner and provides the maximum allowable educational credits toward the FITT Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation. When you graduate from this International Business (IB) Graduate Certificate Program, complete one year of industry experience and pass the required FITT exam(s) you will be eligible to receive your CITP designation. Co-op On-the-Job Experience

 
You can acquire invaluable work experience in the international business field through a one-work term cooperative education assignment following completion of the academic portion of the program. These training experiences give you an ideal way to apply what you’ve learned in class and also explore different potential career paths.

The International Business program is located at the Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario.

When you’ve completed your intensive year of study, you will be ready to work in any of the following areas:
  • Trading companies handling imports/exports, freight forwarding or customs brokerage
  • Manufacturing companies assisting with sales and marketing, market research, logistics or documentation
  • Governmental (or NGO) internship abroad
  • Commercial consulates that assist international trade
  • Owner-operated businesses focused on international trade consulting or import/export opportunities

Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of demonstrated competence through related work and/ or educational experience.

In some cases, applicants may be requested to submit a résumé, which includes details of related work experience, and a cover letter, which summarizes career goals and reasons for wanting to take this program.

Postsecondary transcripts, indicating courses completed to date, must be submitted to ontariocolleges.ca at the time of application.
