Peer Tutors are Sheridan students selected to tutor other students, based on their strong academics. Peer tutors perform an important and meaningful function in assisting other students. In return, they are paid a fair hourly rate, they gain useful work experience, and they receive the satisfaction that comes from helping others. What does the Career Centre do?We select, hire, train and pay Peer Tutors, and also provide a matching service to connect tutors with students who have requested tutoring. - Peer tutors are paid a fair wage, based on experience.
- Applicants must have at least a B overall average and an A grade in the specific subjects they wish to tutor.
- Applicants must have a satisfactory reference from a faculty member.
- Applicants must complete a self-directed training module prior to tutoring.
- Applications to be a tutor are welecomed from students in all programs.

How to become a Peer Tutor
STEP 1 - Fill out our online application form. You will tell us about yourself, what you wish to tutor, and authorize us to verify your marks.
STEP 2 - Download a Reference form, give it to a Sheridan Faculty member who has taught you, and return it to The Career Centre (Trafalgar D103, Davis B219).
STEP 3 - Download the Peer Tutor Self-Directed Training Program and study this manual. When you feel prepared, come to The Career Centre to do the Fundamental Skills Quiz, which will test your knowledge of this document.
STEP 4 - If you are hired, based on the successful completion of the above three steps, we will contact you to let you know that your file is now active and ready to be assigned tutees.
IMPORTANT: Do not do any tutoring until your hire is confirmed, and until we have informed you that you have been matched with students. If you tutor in advance of this, you are liable not to be paid.
