Sometimes a course seems particularly tough or just doesn't "click". Having someone (especially another student who has done the course already) explain it a different way from the teacher, and in a different way from the textbook, can sometimes make a big difference. How can the Career Centre help?We may be able to match you up with an academically strong student who has done well in the course you are having difficulty with. - Peer Tutors are subject to availability.
- You may request up to 3 subjects per semester.
- You may receive up to 10 hours of tutoring, per subject, per semester.
- We pay the peer tutor. You pay us $20/subject matching fee.
- You must attend classes and do all work in courses you are receiving tutoring for.
- Failure to show, or cancel with adequate notice, deducts time from your 10 hour maximum.

How to Get a Peer Tutor
After you apply we will search our files of registered Peer Tutors for suitability. Should there be no match, we will contact your Program Coordinator and ask for their assistance in identifying a suitable student for your tutoring assignment. You may also suggest a student if you are aware of one (they must apply to be a peer tutor, and be approved, before doing any tutoring).
Students who are hired as peer tutors must have received an "A" grade in the course that you are seeking assistance with, must have at least a B average overall, must have a satisfactory faculty reference, and must complete a self-directed training module.
If/when we have a match, you will be notified by email at which time you must come in to the Career Centre to pay a $20 matching fee. You will then be entitled to receive up to 10 hours of one-on-one tutoring, per subject, up to a maximum of three subjects. Arrangements on where and when this tutoring will take place are made directly between tutor and tutee. All tutoring should take place on campus. The $20 fee is for matching; there is no refund if the time is not fully used.
To get a peer tutor, you must first complete the online application form. (Tutoring applications are not accepted during the first two and final two weeks of each semester). Once you have submitted the form, we will notify you by email when we have a peer tutor match... this may take several days, or longer if no tutor is immediately available. PLEASE NOTE: The Career Centre will do its best to find you with a tutor but we cannot guarantee that someone will be found.
